Stay in Car Immigration Singapore Malaysia (2026 Guide)

Stay in Car Immigration Singapore Malaysia (2026 Guide)

Stay in car immigration Singapore Malaysia is the core of how SGMYTAXI C&J runs a crossing. On our sedan, Innova, and Alphard, the whole family stays seated at both Woodlands and Tuas while the driver handles the booth flow. The Starex does the same at Woodlands.

A street taxi, your own car, another operator, or a coach can still be asked to get out. Follow the officer in front of you.

The short answer, in five lines
  • Stay-in-car is what we offer. It covers our sedan, Innova, and Alphard at both Woodlands and Tuas. It is our service, not an ICA or Immigresen rule.
  • Starex: stay-in-car at Woodlands. At Tuas our FAQ lists Starex passengers as clearing at the counter.
  • Every child needs a passport, infants included. Staying seated removes no document.
  • Child seat: Singapore requires one below 1.35 m, and Malaysia has its own rule. We no longer supply child seats. You are welcome to bring your own at no charge.
  • Luggage: send the count and size of every case, golf bag, and pram. The fleet page is the conservative number.

Quotes and from-prices stay on the route pages. Papers stay on the border crossing checklist. Hours stay on best time to cross. If you only need the first JB walk, start at how to go to JB from Singapore. Seat, passport, and arrival-card rules change. Verify with the official agency before you travel.

Stay in car immigration Singapore Malaysia: what is actually true

Three sentences cover most of the confusion.

01 · Whose rule

Our service pattern

Not a promise from ICA or Immigresen, and not something a driver can guarantee for a car that is not ours.

02 · The officer

Anyone can be asked out

In a taxi, a coach, a self-drive, or our car. Follow the officer in front of you.

03 · Papers

Still every passport

The driver can hold the car in the lane. A birth certificate is not a substitute for a passport.

04 · Return

Same pattern home

If you bring your own child seat, keep it with you for the return trip. Do not leave it at the hotel.

Stay in car tuas checkpoint is the one line to check if you are booking a Starex. Our FAQ lists Starex passengers as clearing at the counter at Tuas, so confirm the checkpoint with us when you book. For a group that wants to stay seated at both, the Alphard and Innova are our stay-in-car vehicles at both checkpoints. Details also sit on the FAQ.

Child seat: Singapore, Malaysia, and your booking

Do not treat the border as a place where the seat stops mattering.

Singapore

Below 1.35 m

An approved child restraint, or a seat belt with an approved booster. Taxis are exempt for a rear-seat child. Private hire cars are not.

Malaysia

Under 12, 36 kg, 136 cm

JPJ lists a mandatory child restraint for private vehicles since 1 January 2020. Seats must meet UN R44 or R129.

The rules, the source, and the line to bring your own

Singapore. The Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Wearing of Seat Belts) Rules 2011, rule 8, require a passenger below 1.35 m to be secured in an approved child restraint suited to height and weight, or in a seat belt with an approved booster. Taxis are exempt for a rear-seat child. Private hire cars are not. SGMYTAXI C&J does not supply the seat, so for a child under 1.35 m the seat is yours to bring.

Malaysia. JPJ states that a child restraint system is mandatory for a child passenger who is under 12, under 36 kg, and under 136 cm, for private vehicles from 1 January 2020. The seat must meet UN R44 or R129. MIROS commonly quotes the height line as 135 cm. Do not argue about one centimetre at the roadside. If your child is near the line, bring the seat.

On your booking. We no longer supply child seats. You are welcome to bring your own, and there is no charge for doing so. Tell us the child’s age, height, and the type of seat you will bring (infant carrier, convertible, or booster) so we can plan the seating and the vehicle size around it. Send the request on How to Book or WhatsApp.

Luggage: what each vehicle really carries

Published capacity on the fleet page is the conservative one to plan from.

Passengers and bags, by vehicle
VehiclePassengers (up to)Luggage on the fleet page
Sedan (5-seater)42 large
Toyota Innova (7-seater)62 large + 2 carry-on
Alphard, 7-seater (pilot seats)62 large + 4 carry-on
Alphard, 8-seater72 large + 4 carry-on
Hyundai Starex (11-seater)102 large + 4 carry-on

Some route and vehicle pages quote higher bag counts. Seat configuration, a pram, and the size of the cases decide that, not a headline. For luggage allowance private car singapore malaysia, the number that matters is the count and size you send us. A hard-shell 28-inch case and a duffel are not the same bag.

The Innova page recommends 4–5 passengers when luggage is real, even though it seats seven. Seven adults plus cases is an Alphard or Starex job.

Golf bags, strollers, and sports gear

Plan a golf bag transfer johor as a vehicle-size question, not a bag-count question. A golf bag is long. The Alphard with pilot seats, the Alphard 8-seater, and the Hyundai Starex pages list golf bags and strollers as workable. Send:

  • number of golf bags, and whether they are in hard cases
  • number of suitcases, large and carry-on
  • pram or stroller, folded or not
  • number of children, their ages, and the child seats you will bring

If the load exceeds the car, we recommend a size upgrade. Our FAQ says so.

Innova vs Alphard vs Starex for a family

Innova vs Alphard is usually a luggage and comfort decision. Starex 11 seater is a headcount decision, and the Tuas note applies.

Private van singapore to jb for 11–18 people is a separate booking and clears at the counter. For a JB crossing, Singapore to Johor Bahru lists a from-price of SGD 80 per vehicle, fuel and tolls included. For a theme-park day, read the Legoland family guide.

Family checklist before you cross

Family luggage loaded beside a seven-seat MPV at a Singapore kerb
Seven things to do the night before
  1. Every traveller has their own passport, infants included. Check validity against Immigresen’s published guidance.
  2. Decide who needs the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card and who is exempt. Singapore citizens are generally exempt. A foreign-passport child on a Singapore family trip is not automatically exempt. The checklist sorts the groups.
  3. Plan the SG Arrival Card for the return only if ICA requires it for that traveller.
  4. Your own child seats packed for both legs. Strollers folded before the driver arrives.
  5. Cabin bag with wipes, snacks, water, a change of clothes, and a bag for car sickness.
  6. A power bank. Phones with screenshots of every confirmation.
  7. Pick the hour. Friday evenings and school holidays stretch a child’s patience first. Best time to cross.

A family crossing, in order

This is the sequence we plan for. The booth flow itself is the officers’ call that day.

From the kerb to the first rest stop
  1. At the kerb. Count the bags into the boot against the number you sent us. Fit your child seat before the engine starts, not at the first red light.
  2. Before the Singapore side. Passports out of the pouch and within reach of whoever holds them. Phones unlocked with the confirmations open. Children buckled for the whole queue, not only the last metre.
  3. At the booths. The driver follows the lane. On a Stay-in-car booking, passengers stay seated unless an officer says otherwise. If an officer asks you to step out, follow the instruction and keep the passports with you.
  4. After the Malaysian side. Seats stay buckled. The first rest stop is for the children, not for the schedule.
  5. On the way home. Your child seat comes with you. The passports are still in one pouch. The SG Arrival Card question is settled before you queue.

What not to book

A sedan for four, two large cases, and a pram

It is a two-large-bag car on paper. Upgrade.

Assuming a Starex stays seated at Tuas

Our FAQ lists Starex passengers as clearing at the counter at Tuas. Confirm the checkpoint with us when you book.

A street taxi that “goes JB”

Singapore’s taxi exemption covers a rear-seat child on the Singapore leg only. Malaysia has its own seat rule.

A child seat you assumed was in the car

We no longer supply child seats. Bring your own. It is free to bring.

Which one fits you

There is no single best vehicle. There is a best match.

Four or five people, moderate bags

Innova, with your own child seat.

Grandparents, a long day

Alphard. Ask for the pilot-seat layout if reclining matters.

Seven or eight with a pram

Alphard 8-seater, bags counted.

Eight to ten, or a golf trip

Starex for the headcount, Alphard for a golf trip. Stay-in-car at Woodlands; check the Tuas note on our FAQ. Send the bag count first.

FAQ

Can I really stay in the car at the border?

On an SGMYTAXI C&J sedan, Innova, or Alphard booking, Stay-in-car is our usual pattern at both Woodlands and Tuas. It is our service, not a rule you can assume from any private car. Follow the officer in front of you.

Do I need to alight at Woodlands checkpoint with a Starex?

At Woodlands, a Starex stays seated. At Tuas, our FAQ lists Starex passengers as clearing at the counter. This is our own procedure, not an ICA or Immigresen rule.

Is a child seat required for a cross-border trip?

Singapore requires an approved restraint for a passenger below 1.35 m, with a taxi rear-seat exemption that does not apply to private hire. Malaysia’s JPJ requires a child restraint system for a child under 12, under 36 kg, and under 136 cm in private vehicles. We no longer supply child seats, so bring your own. There is no charge for bringing it, and we will plan the seating around it.

How many suitcases fit in an Innova?

Plan from the fleet page: 2 large + 2 carry-on, and 4–5 passengers when bags are real. Some vehicle pages quote higher counts. Send us your count and sizes and we will confirm.

Can I bring golf bags or a pram?

Yes, in the right vehicle. Alphard and Starex pages list golf bags and strollers as workable. Tell us how many bags and passengers.

Send passengers, ages, bag count, golf bags or pram, and pickup on WhatsApp. For quotes by route, use Singapore to Johor Bahru or the fleet page. For papers, the border checklist. More answers on the FAQ. Booking steps: How to Book.
